Conflict- Beile does not like the way her boss treats her and is also conflicted with a guy she thinks she loves, Heyman. This memory is romancf to Beile, since Heyman shows hints of love towards her, but hasn’t proposed to her yet.
Foreshadowing-“And a strong impulse seized him to throw himself on those lips and kiss them, which he did tomance, and which shot an electric current through his whole frame” David begins to feel affection or sweatahop sort of attraction for Beile. Protagonist- Beile is conflicted with her feelings, not knowing whether she truly loves Heyman or not. She also deals with the absurd commands from her boss. Lipman bosses Beile around, demonstrating the treatment of women in sweat shops back then.
David can also be seen as an antagonist, ormance he got in between the love Heyman and Beile had for each other. Theme- Love and Feminism. A romance within coworkers and degrading treatment of women workers by bosses.
