It’s quite a tale to follow, from the end of part one its got you at the edge of your seat! The Garrals travel down the Amazon River using a giant timber raft. During the American Civil Warfour men and a young boy flee aboard a balloon. Verne, along with H. Two characters attempt suicide in fits of despair, although both attempts are stopped.

I’m surprised it’s not more popular. To ask other readers questions about Leagues on the Amazonplease sign up. Unlike many of his other novels, this story does not have any science fiction elements. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. Probably had the least real action of any Jules Verne book I’ve read yet, but there was enough mystery to keep me interested.
It felt very predictable and somehow I never got particularly invested in the characters or the story. I was particularly excited to find out it takes place in South America as I have lived there for a year. Three quotes show the most interesting aspects of the writing, but I should warn you there’s a possible spoiler ahead: A Jules Verne adventure and mystery traveling down the Amazon on a huge raft.
